SHiFT Event
s  _____________________________________________________

Starting this Fall, SHiFT will offer two major events a month
— each focused on a theme which relates to our mission: Move to Meaning in Life and Work.  Sample themes: Creating What You Want, New Ways of Working, Simple Abundance, Self-Reinvention, and more.

SHiFT Forums
, offered on the first Monday of each month, will be the principle point of introduction to
those themes.  Forum speakers well known in their areas of expertise  will provide fresh insights into the challenges of our times.

SHiFT Stories, on the third Monday of each month, will feature panels of ordinary people who've done extraordinary things.  Their stories will inspire you.

SHiFT Midternships to Launch this Fall
Imagine new beginnings. Imagine yourself in a new job or career that looks and feels different from your old one. Imagine that it will draw on your existing skill sets, experience, and wisdom. And imagine that it will also meet your evolving passions, values, and interests.

To support your imagination, we're launching a new program -- SHiFT Midternships™. These internship positions will help people road test the transfer of skills to new arenas. Progressive employers will be able to evaluate midlife interns at little risk and expense. And Minnesota can ease the coming Brain Drain by retraining and retaining some of its most skilled and experienced workers. It's a win-win-win all around.

SHiFT Summer Programs Forecast: Light
Nurturing a tree from infancy to maturity, as any landscaper knows, can be challenging. So it is for organizations like ours. That's why we're reducing the number of our programs for the summer.

We've planted the seeds. We're fertilizing the roots. In the Fall, comes the harvest ... and a new vision for SHiFT. Stay tuned!

Wanted: New Venue for SHiFT Forums
To replicate the success of events like Lemonade and The New Frugality, we need a larger venue.  Specifically, the location should offer:

Informal "out of the box" Space. Accommodations for large groups (200+), plus space for smaller break-out groups
Central Metro Location. Accessible via public transportation.
Modest Cost (pay for utilities, custodial backup)
Free Parking (close at hand and safe)
Access to Audio-Visual Equipment
Sponsorship Opportunities. Partner with organizations that have complementary missions
Beverages/Snacks. Available at or near location, or ability to bring in food w/o a caterer's license

Got some suggestions?  Contact Gerry Kegler or David Buck.

A Door Closes ... For Now
The last event at SHiFT Network-Inver Grove Heights was held July 15 at
Inver Hills Community College. We express our gratitude to the college, Joann Nelson, Dick Graham, and Jan Hively for paving the way to try out this new endeavor.

As SHiFT expands, new SHiFT Networks may be developed.  Keep an eye on the website and the newsletter for details. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time and energies to help make the experiment a success!

SHiFT Strategic Plan the Way Forward
SHiFT is at an exciting juncture, a place where we engage the community to create the services needed in the move to more meaning in life and work.

The strategic plan inspired by our work at the Prouty Project defines our core values. It establishes a vision. It guides program development based on four basic questions. And it lays out specific action steps for the next three years in each of five key areas.

Going It Alone is part of our American mythology. But what a community creates together can be more powerful than what we create on our own. Couldn't attend attend either of the Monday presentations? Send your ideas for resources and services to SHiFT Operations Co-Leader David Buck.
